National Mindframe Initiative
The Mindframe National Media Initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and guided by the National Media and Mental Health Group with representatives from peak media and mental health organisations.
The Mindframe Initiative is a comprehensive strategy that aims to influence media coverage of issues related to mental illness and suicide, encouraging responsible, accurate and sensitive portrayals. The strategy includes projects that are focussed on providing resources and professionals development opportunities for media professionals, the mental health and suicide prevention sector, police and courts, and those involved in the development of Australian film, television and theatre. The initiative also supports the development of curriculum resources for the training of journalism students, SANE Australia’s Media Centre and StigmaWatch program, and specific projects helping to build the evidence base for this work.
